The recipient of one of three Pinnacle Awards went to Inland Northwest Health Service, an employer who has consistently maintained a well-rounded CTR program since they began participating over eight years ago. With strong management support, ETC, Phyllis Dunlap continually participates in all countywide promotions, attends networking events and has successfully kept their CTR program strong. Educating employees at new hire orientation, employees also enjoy many CTR benefits including a guaranteed ride home program, showers, indoor bike racks (in the lunch room), next day dry cleaning services, free bus passes for employees who turn in their parking space, vanpool subsidies and an internal CTR web page on their company’s intranet site highlights CTR happenings at INHS.
Submitting articles weekly, employees can find up to date information on the CTR program in the company’s weekly newsletter under Commute Connect Corner. A confirmation to the success of the news articles, this past summer, Phyllis offered bike lights at a discounted price and sold 170 in less than a week.
Although Phyllis doesn’t have a designated CTR budget, her requests to management for help with the CTR program are usually always approved. Making goal with a 17.9 percent reduction in drive alone trips during the 2009 survey, Inland Northwest Health Services continued its success in 2010 and reduced over 16,000 trips from our roadways, eliminating over 180,000 miles from being driven and reducing over 184,000 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.
A perfect fit for the job and firm believer in “Walking your Talk,†Phyllis has been using commute alternatives for nearly 21 years and sets an outstanding example for employees to follow. Before working at Inland Northwest Health Services, Phyllis rode the bus to work for 12 years.
