Cherie Young

Most Valuable Commuter February 2003
Employer: Sacred Heart Medical Center
Occupation: Registered Nurse
Hobbies: Camping, swimming and spending time with her family

Originating in Coeur d'Alene, Cherie Young has been the primary driver of her vanpool for two and half years. With two stops, one in Post Falls and one at Deaconess Medical Center, the vanpool carries 14–15 passengers daily, which eliminates over 4,500 drive alone miles and nearly 260 pound of air pollution each week!
"When I was driving alone, I put 50,000 miles on my car and had to change my oil every month in a half," exclaimed Cherie. At one point, the vanpool had over 20 passengers registered. Most were part time passengers who also worked on the weekends. Cherie would collect everyone's schedule and ensure they had a seat on the van for the month.
She admits that sometimes it's hard but it's definitely worth it, especially when she sees all the single drivers coming into the parking garage and she is carrying 14! "Cherie's positive attitude, flexibility and creativity are the key ingredient for this van's success," smiled Lori Barschig, ETC, Sacred Heart Medical Center. Way to Go Cherie!
