Champion Business Leader
Tim Hansen - Spokane County
Tim is the HR Director for Spokane County, which employs nearly 2000 employees, both on the County campus and throughout all of Spokane County.
Tim personally walks his talk by carpooling with the HR Manager, as often as he can. He also works a compressed work schedule and teleworks on occasion.
He feels that the CTR program saves Spokane County a great deal of money by providing low-cost options to employees, rather than providing and paying for expensive parking lots. Spokane County has extremely limited parking. With 1500 employees on the County campus and less than 600 parking spaces for their employees, it’s imperative that the County look for ways to reduce the number of employees driving to campus.
Tim supports the CTR program by allowing their ETC, Julie Korrsjoen, the time and a budget to market the CTR program. With his support, Julie has increased employees filling out their commute calendars by over 60% since becoming the ETC in March 2019. He feels that the greatest challenge in promoting CTR to the Spokane County employees is getting employees to read their emails. However, that’s not just CTR related emails, but ALL emails coming from HR.
Tim feels it’s important for other Business Leaders to be a role model for their CTR program. He’s worked with the County Commissioners and Department Heads to be open to compressed work schedules as well as teleworking and flexibility in employee’s start/end times to accommodate the bus, carpool and or vanpool.
ETC, Julie Korssjoen, states “Tim provides time and enthusiasm for CTR. He looks for metrics to show growth in the program and shares the numbers in monthly department meeting. Tim is an advocate for converting more of our parking spaces to rideshare spaces, and encourages promotions and prize drawings for CTR participants”.
Congratulations Tim!
