Champion Commuter

Scott Bono, Airway Heights Corrections Center

Scott is a Warehouse Manager for Airway Heights Corrections Center. Soon after Scott began working at AHCC, six years ago, he looked into joining a vanpool/rideshare group. Commuting from Deer Park to Airway Heights every day was putting over 60 miles on his personal vehicle every day!

For the last 6 years, Scott has been the primary Rideshare driver which begins in Deer Park, stops at the 5-Mile Park & Ride to pick up riders, and then continues on to the West Plains. Scott played a critical role in getting the van on the road, volunteering to be a driver and recruiting passengers needed to fill the van.

Scott enjoys the set commute schedule he has by ridesharing. Knowing that people are counting on him when the clock reaches 5:30am and at 3:30pm, it’s time to go home! Ridesharing keeps him on a schedule and allows for a balanced work/family life. He also enjoys the friendships he’s made through the years and the opportunity to meet people within AHCC he wouldn’t normally have been introduced to.

Scott doesn’t see any challenges in ridesharing. He and the other riders work around vacations and scheduling conflicts. If an unexpected situation arises and both drivers aren’t available to drive, they have a group text to notify the other riders.

ETC, Nicole Freese-Turns, says “Keeping the vanpool riders happy is Scott’s way of ensuring the van stays on the road. It’s very important to him that all riders arrive to their destinations safely.”

Congratulations Scott!
