Champion Commuter

Kevin Erickson, AHCC

Kevin is a Correctional Industries Supervisor 2 at Airway Heights Correction Center. He has been a vanpooler for nearly 15 years. Soon after Kevin began working at AHCC, a coworker was talking about their vanpool program. With a 30-mile round trip commute, the thought of saving money on gas, wear and tear on his personal vehicle and the positive impact on the environment, getting into a vanpool was a no-brainer.

Recently, Kevin saw the need to start a new vanpool and was able to add 6 additional staff to vanpool. All 5 riders are AHCC employees. Of the 5, 3 are drivers. They have a group text and stay in communication for any changes. Kevin was instrumental in getting this new van on the road 6 months ago. They all live fairly close to each other, so they’re able to pick up each employee at their homes. Very convenient!

Before he formed the latest van, he would pick up two other riders on his way to the pickup spot, where the van met, and then he would take them home after work. Kevin goes above and beyond any obstacle to help others and get them involved in commute options! Vanpooling also allows Kevin to reduce his carbon footprint, which is very important to him.

Since he began vanpooling in 2010, he has saved nearly 97,000 miles from being driven on our roads and has saved over $27,000! ETC, Lorene Hansen, states “Kevin has been instrumental in encouraging staff to look at commute options. He is always willing to help people who are interested in starting a vanpool and will help in any way possible”.

Congratulations Kevin!
