Champion Commuter

Erik Broderson - Fair Child Air Force Base

Erik is a civilian Contracting Officer for FAFB and has worked on base for 22 years. Erik has always worked a compressed work schedule, and after the pandemic he started teleworking. Nearly 4 years ago he began vanpooling. His daughters were older and able to drive themselves and he wasn’t worried about being “stuck” at work if there was an emergency with the family. Since February 2021, Erik has saved over 500 trips and nearly 25,000 miles from being driven on our roads.

With a 48-mile round trip commute, Erik had been spending $100 a week on gas when driving alone. Now, with a fully subsidized vanpool fare, Erik enjoys the money he’s saving, nearly $18,000 in gas alone. And by reducing the miles, wear and tear on his truck, he’s able to extend the life of his vehicle, which he appreciates, knowing how much it would cost to replace it! Erik enjoys the friendships he’s made with his “van family”. He’s been able to get to know other employees he normally wouldn’t have had the chance to meet. He also enjoys being able to nap on the way into work or on his way home.

ETC, Josh Potter states “Erik has been an advocate for the CTR program at FAFB for the last 20 years. And, as a user of commute options, he’s also able to help squadron members find the best options for them.”

Congratulations Erik!
