This Privacy Policy describes how Commute Smart Northwest (“CommuteSmartNW,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Commute Smart Northwest website and mobile application (together, the “Services”). Your use of the Services is also governed by our Terms of Use.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide when you register and use the Services:
- Account information: name, email address, username, and password
- Optional contact information: phone number
- Workplace information: home ZIP code, worksite affiliation, miles to work, and job type
- Commute profile: weekly work schedule, preferred commute mode, carpooling preferences and passenger count, and park-and-ride usage
- Commute log entries: dates, modes of transportation, miles traveled, and optional notes or trip descriptions
Information we do not collect:
- We do not collect real-time GPS or other precise device location.
- We do not use third-party advertising identifiers.
- Our mobile application does not include third-party analytics software development kits.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate your account and provide access to the Services.
- To display your personal commute history and environmental impact metrics, including greenhouse gas reduced, gas saved, calories burned, and money saved.
- To calculate aggregate, de-identified regional commute statistics for program reporting.
- To recognize program participants for awards and nominations.
- To communicate with you about your account or the program.
3. How We Share Your Information
- With your employer’s Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC), where applicable, for purposes of Commute Trip Reduction reporting required under Washington State law (RCW 70A.15.4000).
- In aggregate, de-identified form with regional transportation agencies for program planning and reporting.
- As required by law, in response to a valid legal process.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Data Security
All communication between your devices and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Account passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing. Mobile application sessions are authenticated using short-lived bearer tokens.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information and commute log entries for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account at any time using the contact information below.
6. Children’s Privacy
The Services are intended for adult employees participating in regional commute reduction programs. Consistent with our Terms of Use, minors should not provide personal information without parental consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your Rights
- You may access and update your account information through the app or website at any time.
- You may add, edit, or delete your own commute log entries at any time.
- You may request deletion of your account by contacting us using the information below.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the updated policy on this page.
9. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of Washington, and any disputes arising under it will be resolved in the courts of Spokane County, Washington.
