Champion Commuter

Ryan Stewart, Spokane Regional Transportation Council

Ryan is a Principal Transportation Planner for SRTC. Ryan has been a long-time bus rider. He remembers riding the bus when he was about 12 years old and feeling the freedom of being able to go downtown and spend the afternoon, without relying on an adult to drive him.

Throughout his adult life, Ryan has continued riding the bus. Currently, Ryan has a 32-mile round trip commute from Liberty Lake into downtown Spokane. He enjoys his quiet time on the bus, listening to music and not having to drive. He appreciates the fully subsidized transit pass that SRTC provides their employees, and that leadership supports teleworking. Ryan is able to telework 2-3 days per week and also works a 4/10 schedule. A true multi-modal user!

Since logging his trips in 2012, Ryan has saved nearly 62,000 miles off our roads by using commute options and has saved over $17,000 in commuting costs.

Working for SRTC, Ryan feels it’s their mission to walk their talk, be environmentally conscious, reduce trips off our roads and free up parking in downtown Spokane.

ETC, Greg Griffin, states “Ryan cares deeply about the environment and setting an example for others. Ryan is very committed to finding commute option opportunities every day”! Congratulations Ryan!
