Champion Commuter

Pat Donahue – Spokane Public Safety

Pat is a Public Defender for the City of Spokane and an avid cyclist. He’s been riding his bicycle for about 12 years in Spokane.

Pat loves riding his bicycle and enjoys both the mental and physical benefits. He finds the less time that he spends in vehicle traffic, the better his mental health. Biking into work also leaves him feeling sharper in the morning and the ride home helps him to decompress and be more present at home.

As an attorney, dressing professionally is a requirement and riding a bicycle while wearing a suit would be impossible. Pat has solved that problem by leaving suits in his office so that he's able to change once he arrives at work.

Pat enjoys the four seasons in Spokane but admits his biggest obstacle to biking to work is the weather. But he has the appropriate gear and lives less than 4 miles from work.

Since Pat began logging his trips in October ’24, he’s ridden nearly 1900 miles and burned over 38,000 calories!

ETC, Angie Napolitano, says “Pat is an inspiration to all who think it’s impossible to commute by bicycle. He definitely goes above and beyond to find ways around all obstacles.”

Congratulations Pat!
