Champion ETC
Nicole Freese-Turns – Airway Heights Corrections Center
Nicole Freese-Turns is a Corrections Specialist and an outstanding Co-ETC at the Airway Heights Corrections Center, supporting 818 employees.
Known for creative outreach emails, Nicole plays a vital role in promoting the facility’s Commute Smart program. Behind the scenes, she keeps STA RideShare spreadsheets accurate, distributes incentive gifts, and manages an awards shadow box showcasing all of Airway Heights Corrections Center’s Commute Smart achievements.
During a recent extended absence from the primary ETC, Nicole stepped up seamlessly to manage major initiatives, including employee surveys and a wellness fair. Her proactive coordination is critical as the facility prepares four potential new STA RideShares while waiting for vehicles.
As an active STA RideShare participant, Nicole leads by example. She has personally saved over 33,000 miles from being driven on local roads and saved more than $9,000 in commuting costs.
This firsthand experience allows her to support her workforce effectively during a challenging economic climate marked by high fuel prices.
Managing over 800 staff members gives her a unique opportunity to build strong professional rapport. Her service reflects her belief that persistence is an ETC's best tool. She notes that high response rates come from consistent follow-ups, not just one announcement, proving that hard work is worth it.
