Champion Commuter

Mike Cline - City of Spokane - City Hall

Mike Cline is a GIS Analyst for the City of Spokane-City Hall. He began working downtown in 2009. Learning of the free bus pass program that the City of Spokane offered, Mike began riding the bus, to save money on commuting costs and parking. About 5 years ago, Mike began riding his bike to work. With a 7-mile commute from Spokane Valley he enjoys incorporating exercise with his daily commute. He also works a compressed work schedule and teleworks about 1 day per week.

Mike doesn’t feel he has any challenges riding his bike. His morning commute begins at 5:30am and the traffic is light, but on the way home, he has a different route, taking him through the neighborhoods to avoid traffic. It adds another 1 ½ miles, but he feels safer. And, if the weather is too bad, he’ll walk a couple blocks to the nearest bus stop and take the bus to work. He hasn’t driven his personal vehicle to work in the last 4 years.

Since he began logging his trips in October 2022, Mike has saved nearly 9,000 miles from his personal vehicle and burned nearly 70,000 calories!

ETC, Cory Kittrell says, “Mike helps his fellow colleagues by researching and designing safer, more efficient bike commuting routes, helping to reduce the stress for new riders”.

Congratulations Mike!
