Champion Commuter

Margee Chambers, Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency

Margee has been a dedicated member of Spokane Clean Air for over 25 years. Currently serving as an Air Resource Specialist, her work involves air quality forecasting, rule writing, and managing the wood stove changeout grant. Beyond her technical duties, she’s also their Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC), a role she fulfills by leading by example.

For the last 25 years, Margee has prioritized sustainable commuting. Her methods have shifted alongside the agency’s office locations, spanning walking, biking, carpooling, and transit. Today, her routine consists of teleworking two days a week and busing at least once weekly—a transition she made after her long-term carpool partner retired last fall.

While she appreciates the work-life balance of teleworking, Margee acknowledges the realities of the bus. It adds an hour to her round trip and involves tight transfers at the Plaza, fast-moving traffic on Highway 2, and the physical challenges of Spokane’s icy winters.

Despite these hurdles, Margee remains committed to removing cars from the road. She believes it is essential for clean air agency staff to "walk the talk" of their mission. By utilizing Commute Smart NW promotions, she continues to inspire her coworkers to explore greener alternatives, proving that even a challenging commute can make a meaningful difference for the environment.
