Champion Commuter

Logan Callen, City of Spokane, City Hall

Logan is the Environmental Program Manager for the City of Spokane, managing greenhouse gas, energy, and environmental reporting. Modeling these sustainable values, he works a 4/10 schedule—teleworking two days and riding his e-bike the other two.

Logan purchased his first e-bike through WSDOT’s rebate program using a $300 incentive. This sparked an incredible household transformation: they sold their second family car and bought another e-bike for his wife. Now, they cycle downtown together, bypassing traffic and parking hassles completely.

Prior to e-biking, Logan routinely took the bus or carpooled with his wife. Over the past decade, his unwavering commitment has reduced nearly 1,300 tracked trips and over 9,500 miles not driven on his commute calendar.

Because City Hall lacks designated employee parking, Logan actively champions alternative commuting to his coworkers. He regularly educates new hires on available workplace perks, including fully subsidized transit passes, premier indoor bike storage, and a convenient on-site repair station.

His daily commute is a true highlight. Instead of experiencing road rage, Logan enjoys cruising through beautiful parks by the Spokane River and Gonzaga University, arriving refreshed and ready to begin his day. His decade-long dedication perfectly demonstrates the leadership of a true Commute Smart Champion.
