Champion Commuter

Katherine Rice, Washington Trust Bank

Katherine is an Internal Auditor for Washington Trust Bank. Living close to downtown, Katherine enjoys her 20-minute walk to work each day. And, on days when she can’t walk, she will carpool with her boyfriend. Katherine is also able to telework one day per week.

Katherine enjoys the money she saves on gas, parking, and wear and tear on her car by walking to work but says walking in a populated downtown can come with some significant concerns. She’s planned a route she feels safe with but will always check the news before walking home each night to ensure there isn’t an area on her way home, she should avoid or a weather issue to be concerned with. She stays prepared with proper footwear, extra clothes, and an umbrella.

She enjoys the beautiful scenery each day walking over the Monroe Street bridge, taking in the lovely sights of our city and Riverfront Park.

Katherine admits she doesn’t like to drive but does enjoy being the “passenger princess” when carpooling with her boyfriend.

ETC, Rebekah Buettner, states “Katherine is able to prioritize wellness while commuting. She frequently walks to work to get some activity and it helps “give her brain a good reset between work and home”.

Congratulations Katherine!
