Karis Clark, Orthopaedic Specialists

Karis Clark is a Practice Coordinator and has been the ETC, for Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists since August 2024.

She markets her Commute Smart program to 230 employees at their downtown Spokane office. NWOS offers bike cages, compressed work schedules, and teleworking options. Karis also posts bus schedules and bike routes in the breakrooms.

Karis leads by example and rides the bus or carpools with her husband to work every day. Since logging her trips in 2022, she has saved nearly 1000 trips and saved almost 6,500 miles off our roads.

Karis enjoys helping her co-workers find a commute option that might work for them. The best part of being ETC is when she’s able to distribute prizes to her co-workers. She says, “it just makes their day”.

Because her employer does not offer cash incentives, Karis gets creative to promote her program by offering fun games and small prize giveaways to raise awareness. She also shares important updates by sending out bi-weekly emails to current staff and introductory emails to all new hires.

Her words of wisdom are, “Using a commute option is helpful as an ETC, but as long as you’re available and responsive, you’ll do great!”.
