Champion Commuter
Jeremiah Kim - WSDOT Eastern Region
Jeremiah chooses not to own a car. He doesn’t see the need for a car when he can walk or take the bus to wherever he needs to go. When choosing where to live, his primary concern is if it’s within walking distance of his worksite.
Jeremiah is an outstanding commuter because he chooses to walk, making a healthy and environmentally friendly commute part of his daily routine. His commitment sets a great example of how simple choices can make a big difference. He also teleworks when needed and regularly shares tips and ideas with others to encourage alternative commuting options.
Jeremiah walks to work mainly because it’s practical and saves him money. No need to worry about the costs of owning a car. It’s a convenient, efficient, and healthy way to commute. On top of that, WSDOT offers walkers $1.50 cash incentive each day they walk, which adds a little extra motivation to stick with it.
He doesn’t feel he has any significant challenges to overcome, except for the weather, but he makes sure to dress accordingly.
ETC, Juli Wallace says, “Jeremiah goes the extra mile by encouraging others to consider alternative commute options. He also shows initiative by actively participating in the program and immediately began using the commute calendar once he learned about the available tools”.
Congratulations Jeremiah!
