Champion Commuter
Jennifer Frieling – Eastern WA US Probation
Jennifer is a U.S. Probation Officer for the Eastern District of Washington.
In 2015, Jennifer was offered the opportunity to telework on a limited basis. After March 2020, she was able to telework 4-5 times per week, with the only requirement to be in the office for 2 days per pay period. Teleworking has allowed her to have better concentration in a quieter environment with less distractions.
Jennifer enjoys teleworking as it saves money, reduces wear and tear on her vehicle and decreases the length of her workday. Jennifer disliked her 15-mile commute as the drive was stressful and required her to be away from her family for longer periods of time. The flexibility of teleworking has provided Jennifer with the opportunity to spend more time with her family, and she is grateful her employer participates in the Commute Smart program.
Teleworking has not presented any significant challenge for her, but she tries to be mindful of taking short breaks and walks throughout the day to stay active. Additionally, she takes advantage of her in-office days to coordinate multiple meetings.
ETC, Angie Swan, says, “Jennifer has been a consistent participant for many years and fills out her calendar without reminders. Most notably, she has been successful in teleworking despite having a job that requires her to be able to drop everything at a moment’s notice and come into the office if needed.”
Congratulations Jennifer!
